Physics of Intelligence workshop
An intimate extended-weekend gathering in the desert

“Information is physical".  So too is intelligence.

As we forge ahead into the age of AI, we have very little theory to ground us.  Will these new intelligences be safe, dangerous, fantastic?  Is it even possible to know?  This event is meant to engage earnestly with the deepest questions in the physics of intelligence, with the hopes of breaking down assumptions of insufficient paradigms, and building the necessary frameworks capable of addressing the physics of intelligence as it can be in our universe.  Superintelligence will likely be achieved whether or not we understand it.  However, a positive future for humanity likely requires understanding and control.  The fundamental questions and understanding developed here will thus be pivotal in enabling a better future for all. 

Key questions explored in this workshop include:

• What are the physical constraints on intelligence?

• Is information theory sufficient for understanding the transformation of information in minds?

• Are quantum minds possible?  

• What assumptions can we trust for AI safety in the physical world?

• Does all intelligence happen in forward time?

Hikes, outings, and social activities will play a prominent role in drawing out our best ideas, with nature-induced inspiration and collective iteration of ideas.
